WELCOME back everyone. I hope everyone had a great summer and stayed “cool.” During the summer months, we had lots of activities as you can see by some attached photos. More photos can be seen at our web site. Also: a big WELCOME to some new members: Jean Reme and Patti Burke. Stop by and say “hi” to them.
To start, in June we had our annual picnic with Sam Jr. who provided entertainment. He did a great job as an Elvis impersonator. We also had a brown bag auction along with a GREAT trip to the Fort Devens Museum. The museum opened up solely for us as they normally are closed on Thursdays. The museum is well laid out, with displays ranging from WWI to artifacts from the current Iraq-Afghanistan war. If you have not been to this museum, it is well worth a trip. After the museum tour, we all had lunch at the Devens Grill. It was a great afternoon! There is a lot going on at “Devens.”
The following month of July was also busy. We had lunch at the Longhorn Restaurant that was most enjoyable. Then, later in the month, we took a trip to cruise Squam Lake, where the film “On Golden Pond” was made. The bus trip, driven by “Curmudgeon and Friends”, the boat trip on the lake, the lunch and a little shopping, were all simply superb. A great job by Grace and Donna on arranging this event. We had great weather, saw several Loons, and simply enjoyed the scenery of this beautiful lake. Most of the folks stated they have never visited this lake, and it is so close. We need to see more of our home state of New Hampshire. Also, during July we had a presentation by Jamie Thurston from “Home Instead.” She discussed this senior care program along with the Alzheimer and dementia care Grant Program. We also met at Parkers Maple barn for another great lunch.
During August, the highlight was a trip to the Butterfly Place in Westford, MA followed by lunch at the “Outback.” If you have not made a trip to the Butterfly Place, especially if you have children and or grand children, you need to visit this place. The various species of butterflies are too numerous to count. This is a visit that young and old will most surely enjoy. And then it was off to the “Outback” for a great lunch. We also had folks from the Hollis Old Home Day committee come and give us an update as to this years HOHD celebration. Be sure to attend. And at our last August meeting we had our Birthday Cake and Ice Cream.
A special event is happening in September! Hilda Tolles will be turning 100 years young. She will be having a Birthday party on 12 September, here at the Barn, from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. All are invited and all that is required is a “birthday card” showering Hilda on her special day. If you cannot attend the birthday “bash” please feel free to send your card to Hilda Tolles, 38 Lorna Street, Hollis, NH 03049.
