September 2014

Welcome back everyone.  Hope you had a great summer.  During the summer we had some new folks join.  So say welcome to the following:

Richard Brown, Lindy Brown, Bill Barnes, Phil Scott and Brenda Scott.  Did I miss anyone?

We had an active June, July and August.  We kicked off June by having Pizza and movies.  We also had presentations on the importance of “Gluten-free” diets.  It was interesting to note that there are now medical tests to see if one is possibly allergic to Gluten.  And then we were further entertained by the “Classics” and “Ramblin’ Richard”.    Talk about great shows!!  We also enjoyed our annual picnic.

In July, we again started with Pizza and movies. Then we had Jim Belanger explain the French migration to the United States and his research into the “Belanger” surname.  Jim has added over 100,000 “Belangers” to his ancestral research.  His research is still ongoing.  Additionally, during July we had an “outing” to the Fulchino Vineyards.   We learned about winemaking in Hollis and, more importantly, tasted the various varieties of wine that are produced by the vineyard.  Then, still in July, we had a luncheon at the Olive Garden.

The month of August again started with a Pizza and a movie.  We had another great luncheon, this time at the “Long Horn” restaurant.  Additionally Lindy Brown provided a presentation on “Reflexology for the Sole.”  Lindy is an ARCB Certified Reflexologist. She explained the history and benefits of “Reflexology.”  Finally, Heidi Paine presented us her “My Heidi Bag” designs.  She further explained how she got stated in this unique “bag” design and manufacturing business.  Visit www.myheidibag.com for more information.

There were just to many photos to place in this edition of the newsletter.  But, for folks with Internet, go to our Seniors website and see the various “summer” photos.

If we forgot someone, it is because you didn’t provide your birth month for our database.  Please see Bob Fiero to update your information.

General:

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

Future Senior Activities:

1.      We will be starting Meals-on-Wheels in September.

2.      We will be starting our Middle-School lunches again.

3.       During October we will have our annual “Halloween” show.

4.       In November look for our Veterans’ Day meeting along with our annual Brown Bag Auction.

5.      In December we will have a Christmas Sing-along and our Christmas party: 11 December 2014 at the Radisson Hotel.

6.      AND, elections for your 2015 officers.  So, don’t be afraid to step up.

Please let me know your suggestions.

Honi
