October 2014

We have some new members, so say welcome to the following:

Gert Bryson and Susan Laurenson.  Stop by and say “hello” to them.

We started September by having Pizza and a movie.  It was a chance to socialize with everyone after a long summer.

During the next week we started with our Meals on Wheels.  AND, we had an ice cream social.  Ice cream with all the fixings, it just doesn’t get any better than that.  What a way to welcome the fall season.

The following week, our Police Chief, Chief Sartell gave a lecture on “fraud” and how seniors need to protect themselves from the various types of scams and “con” games that are ongoing.  Some of these scams make a point of targeting seniors, who seem to be vulnerable to some of these ruses.  Examples are phone scams, the IRS scam, the grandson/granddaughter scam, the home roofing scam, and the list goes on.  He also emphasized just how easy identity theft can happen, especially when people use their credit and debit cards.  And, of all things, he mentioned how “dumpster diving” can just about ruin your life, especially when your private information is compromised.  People do go through your trash!  Word to the wise:  Be careful with your personal data.  And, if you suspect you may be a target for a scam, call the Hollis Police immediately.

On the last week of September we had our business meeting and our monthly birthday cake and ice cream celebration.

General:

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

Future Senior Activities:

1.      We will be starting our Middle-School lunches again.

2.       In November look for our Veterans’ Day presentation.

3.      In December we will have a Christmas Sing-along and our Christmas party: 11 December 2014 at the Radisson Hotel.

4.      AND, elections for your 2015 officers.  So, don’t be afraid to step up.

Please let me know your suggestions.

Honi
