October 2013

We kicked off September with several activities, starting with a Reikie demonstration.  By the way, Reikie isn’t just for people, but animals can also benefit from it.  Reikie is stress relief.  It is a “hands over” complete body experience.  Check out the enclosed photos.  See how relaxed some of our members were who experienced this session.   A state of bliss.

We then were treated to the “Homesteaders” and their Angora rabbits.  It was amazing to see just how docile the rabbits were.  They were so content to have their “fur” combed by their owners.  And it was even more amazing to see how their fur was spun into yarn and the yarn then made into hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, etc.  Truly, a prime example of self-sufficiency.  Again see the enclosed photos.

Next we had a presentation by author Robert Demayo on his recent book, “The making of Theodore Roosevelt.”  Robert explained the early years of Teddy (future Rough Rider leader) and how his young years eventually shaped his future presidency.

He described Teddy growing up in Maine, his love of poetry, etc.  Most remarkable.  We learned a lot about the young “TR.”

At the Hollis Old Home Days we had a senior tent along with many photos showing the Hollis seniors engaged in various activities.  A good time was had at the HOHD.

We finished up the month with our business meeting.  The minutes of the last meeting were read by Vice President Donna Wardlow and were accepted.  Items covered were disbursements for music entertainment and down payment for the upcoming Christmas party.  Also the minutes discussed the Hollis Old Home Days and the summer picnic.  The treasures report was read and accepted.

The business meeting moved to have the December business meeting held on 19 Dec 2013 and to cancel the 26 Dec 2013 meeting.  The purchase of a “Hollis Senior” banner was discussed and approved.  Additionally, the nomination of officers for next year was discussed.  Jim Belanger will chair a nomination committee.
