Hollis Seniors meet every Thursday at the Lawrence Barn Community Center.  Gathering starts at 11 AM and Meals on Wheels is usually brought in at noon.  A program usually follows the meal or members stay and socialize, playing games of their choice.

October 2012

We started September with various activities and reunions.  Members got to relate their summer experiences and re-new “hello’s” with each other.  Furthermore, we added some new members.  Stop by and say “hi” to Claire and David Helfman.

We also had guest speakers and presenters. One of the topics was the presentation by Jeff McLynch from the NH Fiscal Policy Institute.  Jeff talked about NH Tax Policy (impacts all of us) and the upcoming NH constitutional amendments (3 of them) that all of us will be voting on this coming November.  So please review these proposed amendments before you go vote in November.

Activities for the month of October:

-          4 Oct:  MOW + Movie

-          11 Oct:  KC Morgan from Wild Salamander Art Center will talk about programs for all age groups.

-          18 Oct:  Ann from Life Long Fitness will talk about programs available, nutrition and exercise.

-          25 Oct:  9AM-12PM.  A foot clinic will be held at the Barn on this date/time.  Call Honi for specifics.

-          25 Oct:  Monthly Business meeting

October Birthdays:  Sandy Belanger, Helga Coss, Ruth Dunn, Paul Fimbel, Marjorie Frank, and Gerry Walsh.

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

Future Senior Activities of interest.

1.      How about a trip to the NH State House to see and hear our State Reps at work?  (We now have one of our own as a State Representative).

2.      NOTE:  We will be having AARP driver safety classes on 13 and14 November and 20 and 21 November.  AND, these classes are FREE to all veterans and their spouses.  See Andy to sign up

3.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

4.      Our annual Christmas party will be 13 December 2012 at the Crown Plaza.  So mark your calendars.

5.      We are working on a trip to the Apple store at Pheasant Lane mall to get some “hands on experience” of the latest technology?  No cost.  And then maybe lunch at some of the new restaurants located there?

Please let me know your comments and wishes.
