October 2009

We had an active September.  Mark Piekarksi presented a slide show on antique fire trucks (see photo).  What a hobby that is.   Good thing he has lots of storage space on his property.

Additionally Hilda Tolles presented her biography.  What an interesting set of experiences she has led, to include having visiting all 50 states.  And we had our first lunch at the HBMS.  A great time was had between us “seniors” and the Middle School kids. Furthermore, the “senior tent” at the Hollis Old Home Days was a hit (see photos on our website).

On a very sad note, Virginia Walsh past away on 23 Sep 09.  Our deepest condolences to Preston and his family.

Activities for the month of October.

-          1 Oct:  MOW and Blood Pressure Clinic.  Plus 1st anniversary celebration of the SVTC bus, 1-3PM at the Barn.

-          8 Oct: MOW.  Also, Maggie Riddle will be giving a “corn husk doll” class.  Maggie will supply all the materials.  You will make the doll.  If you have not already signed up for this class, call Phyllis to be included, as Maggie needs to have adequate materials on hand.  AND wear your “work” clothes!

-          15 Oct: MOW.  Also, Evelyn Muzzey will present her biography.

-          20 Oct: Lunch at the HBMS.  You MUST indicate your attendance by 15 Oct.  And if you will be attending, PLEASE attend.  Don’t be a “no show.”  Cost is $3.00 per person.

-          22 Oct:  MOW.  Program TBA

-          29 Oct:  Flu shots will be given this day from 1-3PM.   Also, pneumonia shots will be given this day.  Stay tuned throughout the month for additional information.

October Birthdays:  Sandy Belanger, Helga Coss, Ruth Dunn, and Gerry Walsh.

1.      The Hollis Seniors now have a gateway to post cancellations on WMUR TV, airing 15 and 45 minutes past the hour on Channel 9.  If the weather looks bad, check Channel 9

2.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

3.      The SVTC bus service is off to a good start.  If you have any questions, give Jim B. a call at 465-2301 or call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And attend the SVTC celebrations on 1 Oct (here at the Barn) and 8 Oct in Milford.

Other Senior Activities of interest.

1.      There is some discussion about putting together a Hollis Seniors Time Capsule.  Think about it.  More discussion later.

2.      Don’t forget to visit our Hollis Library.

3.      How about some “show and tells”

4.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

5.      The Hollis Fire Dept wants to visit us and serve a MOW.  All that is needed is to fit them into our schedule during November.

6.      Phyllis Houle has announced that she will be moving next year and thus, we need to be thinking about a new slate of officers.  Looking for a new President and a new Vice President.  Any volunteers?

7.      We are planning a yard sale next spring to help raise some $$ for our treasury.  So, over the next 6 months or so, set aside various items that would be great “yard sale” finds.  Gerry and Loretta will be running the sale.

Please let me know your comments and wishes.
