November 2014

We started October with a presentation on “Hypnosis.”  Lois Hermann from the Amherst Hypnosis Center took us on a visual path to relaxation and provided tips on how to help us have a personal stress free environment.   It was a very enlightening and truly relaxing presentation.

The following week we had a presentation on the latest changes to Medicare and the services provided by “SerivceLink” of Nashua.  The resources provided by “ServiceLink” range from counseling, recognizing healthcare fraud, supporting family caregivers to being a resource for seniors who may have various disabilities, along with having Medicare experts to assist in reviewing the many Medicare options.  They even have programs that assist grandparents who are taking care of grandchildren.  The “ServiceLink” office is located in the Nashua Senior Center.  They can be contacted at toll free (866) 634-9412 or via the web at www.servicelink.org.  This is a tremendous resource for all seniors.

The next week we had our annual “brown-bag” auction.  Our auctioneer was none other than our very own Pam Arpin.  She kept the bidding lively and always kept the various items going “up” in value.  Items auctioned off ranged from bags of coffee to baskets to model planes.  A great time was had by all.

 The following week was open.

On our last week of the month we had our Halloween costume and Pumpkin show.  There were some great customs (see our web site for pictures) and some greatly “carved” pumpkins.  And then we followed all that with our monthly birthday cake and ice cream party and our monthly meeting.

If we forgot someone, it is because you didn’t provide your birth month for our database.  Please see Bob Fiero to update your information.

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

Future Senior Activities:

1.      We have started our Middle-School lunches again.

2.       In November look for our Veterans’ Day presentation.

3.      In December we will have a Christmas Sing-along and our Christmas party: 11 December 2014 at the Radisson Hotel.

4.      AND on 18 December, elections for your 2015 officers.  So, don’t be afraid to step up.

Please let me know your suggestions.
