Hollis Seniors meet every Thursday at the Lawrence Barn Community Center.  Gathering starts at 11 AM and Meals on Wheels is usually brought in at noon.  A program usually follows the meal or members stay and socialize, playing games of their choice.

November 2012

We continued in October with various activities and programs.   Additionally, we keep adding members.  Stop by and say “hi” to Cheryl Van Oss.  Now, whom have I left out?

We also had guest speakers and presenters. Specifically, Anne Micci, CPT, who is the owner of Lifelong Fitness studio provided a presentation on how good personal fitness training is for all ages.  She was very emphatic that “age is not a barrier” to good physical fitness.  Her office is right here in Hollis.

The presentation by Wide Salamander was cancelled at the last minute.  But, it will be coming in November.

And last by not least we had a pumpkin contest.  There were many entries and the seniors voted on the top 3.  The winners were:  1st place Bernie Madeira, 2nd place Evelyn Muzzey and 3rd place Cheryl Piekarski.  Pictures are included.  For more pictures, take a look at our web site.

We also discussed upcoming nominations for next year’s officers.  Currently, open positions are President, Secretary, and Program Coordinator.  If anyone wants to step up, please contact Honi.

Activities for the month of November:

-          1 Nov:  MOW + Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) presentation.  You have to be here to enjoy this All Saints program.

-          8 Nov:  Discuss on various Medicare health plans.

-          13 & 14 Nov:  AARP Driver Safety classes, FREE to all veterans and their spouses.

-          15 Nov:  Presentation by Wild Salamander Art Center

-          22 Nov:  Thanksgiving Day

-          29 Nov:  Monthly Meeting

November Birthdays: Loretta Seremeth and Donna Wardlow.

General:

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

Future Senior Activities of interest.

1.      How about a trip to the NH State House to see and hear our State Reps at work?  (We now have one of our own as a State Representative).

2.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

3.      Our annual Christmas party will be 13 December 2012 at the Crown Plaza.  So mark your calendars.

4.      We are working on a trip to the Apple store at Pheasant Lane mall to get some “hands on experience” of the latest technology?  No cost.  And then maybe lunch at some of the new restaurants located there?

Please let me know your comments and wishes.
