November 2010

We need to say, “welcome” to some new folks.  They are Donna Wardlow, Charles Sokolowski, and Jeff Carrier.  So stop by and say “Hi” when you are at the “Barn.”

During October we started the movies again, had a lecture on changes to health plans by Dr. Squires, and lunch at the Middle School.  It would be great if more folks could attend the monthly Tuesday lunches at the Middle School.  It is fun for both the seniors and the students.

Jerry Walsh talked about the possibility of Yoga being held for seniors on Mondays.  He will check this out for us.

Additionally, at our monthly meeting it was announced that the SVTC (Blue Bus) is applying for a grant that would allow an increase from the current 3-day service to 5-day service.  REMINDER: if you have not registered for the “bus” please do so, even if you have no immediate need for its service.

Attached is a transportation survey that is being published by the Nashua Regional Planning Commission. (You may also see this published in the local papers.) It will be used to help clarify current and future requirements for the “blue bus.”  Take a moment, fill out the survey and give it to Andy at the next meeting.

Our fall schedule is going to be full, so come and enjoy.

Now mark your calendars for 17 DECEMBER!  We will be having our Christmas/Winter party at the CROWN PLAZA in Nashua. Please call Loretta  Seremeth (880-8685) to make your reservation.  We have only 40 seats available.

Activities for the month of November:

4 Nov: MOW + Blood Pressure AND movie time

11 Nov:  MOW + Veterans Day

18 Nov:  MOW + tour of Valicenti Organico.

25 Nov: Have a happy Thanksgiving. No meeting.

November Birthdays: Loretta Seremeth and Donna Wardlow,

1.  The Hollis Seniors now have a gateway to post cancellations on WMUR TV, airing 15 and 45 minutes past the hour on Channel 9.  If the weather looks bad, check Channel 9

2.  We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

3.  The SVTC bus service is off to a good start.  If you have any questions, give Jim Belanger a call at 465-2301 or call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org

4.  Start thinking about next year’s elections for officers of your seniors group.  Nominations to be forthcoming.

Future Senior Activities of interest.

1.  How about a Fall trip?

2.  Mark your calendars-17 Dec at the Crown Plaza. More to follow.

3.  How about a trip to the NH State House to see and hear our State Reps at work?

4.  How about some more “show and tells”?

5.  How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

6.  We are going to investigate the possibility of combining some future events with the Nashua Seniors group.

7.  We will be asking the Hollis Fire and Rescue to give us a class on the use of the defibrillator that is in place at the Barn.   THIS IS VALUABLE INFORMATION.  WE ALL SHOULD KNOW HOW TO USE THIS LIFE-SAVING DEVICE.

Please let me know your comments and wishes.

Gerry Walsh

GONGRTATULATIONS to Jim Belanger on his election to the NH State House of Representatives serving Hollis, Brookline and Mason.  Congrats Jim!
