March 2010

We have some new members:  Marion Keith and George and Pat Russo.  Stop by and say hello to our new members.

We had great January and February activities.  For those of you that didn’t make the meetings, we had Basil Mason provide us with a “history” of Hollis, giving us lots of little known facts.  Additionally, Bill DeFeo demonstrated making a model airplane from Coke cans.  And you can use any beverage can, not just a Coke can.  The demonstration was simply outstanding.  In fact, his “model” is going to be part of our March Treasure Yard Sale.  And speaking of our Treasure Yard Sale, we are still looking for “treasures.”  Contact Gerry (465-7131) or Loretta Seremeth (880-8685) if you have items you wish to donate.   Remember, our sale is going to be held on 20 March 2010, from 8AM to 2PM.  We are still in need of volunteers to help out on “sale day.”

We also decided to hold a “pot-luck” lunch on the last Thursday of the month, along with our business meeting.  AND, we are going to be showing MOVIES on the first Thursday of the month, right after our meals-on-wheels lunch.  AND popcorn will be served.  Believe the first movie will be “On Golden Pond.”  So come and enjoy the activities.

A picture album prepared by Pat Walsh was circulated. Pat took some great individual pictures of our members.  Gerry announced that: anyone wanting a copy of their 5 by 7 picture for $1.00, or an 8 by 10 enlargement for $2.00, or anyone wanting a separate pose for $5.00 should tell Gerry. All proceeds from pictures will go into the senior’s treasury.

We are already planning for our summer picnic.  Right now it looks like the “Boot-Scootin-Boomers” are going to be our entertainment.

General:

1.      The Hollis Seniors now have a gateway to post cancellations on WMUR TV, airing 15 and 45 minutes past the hour on Channel 9.  If the weather looks bad, check Channel 9

2.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

3.      The SVTC bus service is off to a good start.  If you have any questions, give Jim Belanger a call at 465-2301 or call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org

Other Senior Activities of interest.

1.      There is some discussion about putting together a Hollis Seniors Time Capsule.  Think about it.  More discussion later.

2.      Don’t forget to visit our Hollis Library.

3.      How about some more “show and tells”

4.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

5.      We are planning a yard sale this MARCH to help raise some $$ for our treasury. Gerry Walsh and Loretta Seremeth will be running the sale.  Note:  No BOOKS, No SHOES and No CLOTHES.  You can bring your items to any seniors Thursday meeting and we will store them for you as Jim Belanger (thank you) has made available a storage unit.  Or, give Gerry (465-7131) or Loretta (880-8685) a call and we can pick up the items.

6.      Let’s go to the movies!  We are ready to show movies after our meals.  And, we will be serving popcorn!

Please let me know your comments and wishes.

Gerry Walsh
