January 2013

Happy New Year to all!

We started our December program with a presentation on Senior Care.  This program was presented by Frank Belfsky of “Living at Home” which is a NH State Licensed Home Health Care Provider.  The program emphasized the importance of a “safe home” which in turn makes for safe living for all occupants.  Frank discussed various ways that a home can become safer by simply preventing falls due to slippery rugs, to keeping night lights on, to wearing a life line to simply keeping your cell phone handy.  Excellent advice for everyone.

We then had out our Christmas/Winter party at the Crown Plaza.  Many thanks to Nancy Bell for putting this party together.  In addition to fine food and deserts we were entertained by our very own John “O” signing various Christmas songs.  In fact, John led our group in a rousing sing-a-long.  Bottom line, a great time was had by everyone.  Check out additional pictures on our web site.

Then in the following week, we had an “ice cream” social.  Along with the ice cream the HBHS senior cooking class brought us a wide selection of delicious cookies and treats.  The good times keep on rolling!

We then got snowed out at our last monthly meeting.  Thus, we will be voting on new officers at our January meeting.

Activities for the month of January:

  • 3 Jan:  MOW + voting + Blood Pressure AND George King to talk about the RISE program at Rivier.

  • 10 Jan:  Jennifer Arpin will speak about nutrition.

  • 17 Jan: The Blue Bus

  • 24 Jan:  Jennifer (from the Hollis Fire Department) will talk about the Vial of Life

  • 31 Jan:  Monthly business meeting.

January Birthdays: Bill Clinton, Bob Fiero, Andy Seremeth, Corrine Simonds and Mary Ann Stawasz

General:

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

Future Senior Activities of interest.

1.      How about a trip to the NH State House to see and hear our State Reps at work?  (We now have one of our own as a State Representative).

2.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

3.      We are working on a trip to the Apple store at Pheasant Lane mall to get some “hands on experience” of the latest technology?  No cost.  And then maybe lunch at some of the new restaurants located there?

Please let me know your comments and wishes.
