January 2011

HAPPY New Year to ALL!

We had a great December and that set the theme for the upcoming winter calendar.

To start, we had Sandy (our EMT) from the Hollis Fire and Rescue come and instruct us on the use of the “automatic defibrillator “ that is mounted on the wall of the Hollis Barn.  Furthermore, she passed around “Elmer” so that we all could practice administering CPR.  There is now a more accepted method in employing CRP that is a change from what most of us were taught.  Knowing how to use the defibrillator along with the new CPR method is a real “life saver.”  This was an excellent presentation and we plan on repeating it again.   Thank you Sandy!

Then we had our Christmas/Winter party at the Crown Plaza.  Simply stated, it was GREAT.  In fact we had such a good time, we plan on doing it again next year at the Crown Plaza.  The food was excellent and the service was superb!  And those of you that have Internet, check out the pictures at our web site.

Then rounding out the year, we had elections for new officers.  Your new officers are listed above, along with June Madeira who was elected as your Social Secretary.  Congratulations to all.  And with that, we gave our departing president (Jerry) a great round of applause for his dedication and devotion as our past-years president.  Thank you Jerry for all your hard work and support and the great times you provided.

January Birthdays: Bob Fiero and Andy Seremeth

1.      The Hollis Seniors now have a gateway to post cancellations on WMUR TV, airing 15 and 45 minutes past the hour on Channel 9.  If the weather looks bad, check Channel 9

2.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

3.      The SVTC bus service is off to a good start.  If you have any questions, give Jim Belanger a call at 465-2301 or call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org

Future Senior Activities of interest.

1.      How about a Spring trip? Or a Winter trip?  SEE # 8 below.

2.      How about a trip to the NH State House to see and hear our State Reps at work?  (We now have one of our own as a State Representative)

3.      How about some more “show and tells”?

4.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

5.      We are going to investigate the possibility of combining some future events with the Nashua Seniors group.

6.      Look into upcoming classes at RISE.  Some great programs will be offered.

7.      Check out the Hollis Library for upcoming seminars on trusts and wills. There are lots of new changes and these are some very worthwhile seminars.

8.      Curmudgeon & Friends has a small bus (about 14 riders) and has numerous trips planned from January thru March.  Prices are very reasonable.  One example is a trip to the Van Otis Chocolate Factory in Manchester, NH that includes lunch at “Cotton” in Manchester.  Cost:  $39/person.  Another trip is to Keene, NH to see the “King and I” for $37/person, which includes admission.  And another is the Boston Flower Show. What say folks, ready to do a little traveling?  Get rid of the winter “blahs.”  Flyers will be posted at the “BARN.”  Click here for the schedule.

Please let me know your comments and wishes.
