January 2009 and a Happy New Year

Congratulations to Phyllis as our new Seniors President and to Virginia as our new Seniors Vice President.  They are actively working to have new activities throughout this year.  So, if you have any ideas or recommendations, please give them a call.

Well, we started the New Year off by having a great time at the Mile-A-Way restaurant on 15 Jan 09.  Nearly 40 people showed up for a wonderful lunch and sing-along.  The weather was cold, but the warmth at the party was “hot.”  We also had our first lunch at the H-B Middle School.  That also was a great success.  Remember to keep your Tuesdays and Thursdays open for our various activities.

Activities for the Month of Feb:

-          5 Feb:  MOW  and Gaye Kulvete (Hollis Librarian) will be explaining the resources of our Hollis Library.

-          12 Feb: MOW

-          19 Feb: MOW and H-B school lunch.

-          26 Feb: MOW plus business meeting.

February birthdays:

02  Preston Walsh; 11 Ella Wilkinson; 14 Josephine Stiles; 22 Dan Sherwin; 24 Harold Coss and Mable Geddes; 27 Alex Gondola.

General:

  1. The Hollis Seniors now have a gateway to post meeting cancellations on WMUR TV, airing 15 min and 45 min past the hour on Ch 9.  As we enter the fall-winter period, remember to check out Ch-9

  2. We have our business meeting on the last Thursday of every month.  Be sure to attend!

  3. We will be having a presentation by the American Red Cross on March 5. The subject:  Disaster Preparedness.

  4. We will be having another AARP Driving Safety Program class on 24 and 25 Mar 09.  Watch the newspapers for more information.

  5. The Seniors Transportation initiative is off to a good start.  Please make the most of this resource, especially during this winter weather.  If you have any questions, give Jim B. a call.

Other Senior Activities of interest:

Below are some additional activities that are scheduled in our area that may be of interest to you.

  1. Visit the Aviation Museum of NH, located at 13 East Perimeter Road, Concord, NH.  The Museum is open Friday and Saturday, 10:00 to 4:00 PM and on Sunday, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Admission is free.  Go to www.nhahs.org, email at NHavmuseum@netzero.com or call at 603-669-4820.

  2. The Nashua Seniors Center also had various activities that may interest you.

  3. The See Museum in Manchester had a bunch on interesting exhibits that are on interest to people of all ages.  If the grandkids are wondering what to do some cold winter day, take them to the See Museum.

If you want any more information on the above events, call the listed numbers or see Virginia Wilkins.

Let me know your comments as this is “your” organization.
