Hollis Seniors meet every Thursday at the Lawrence Barn Community Center.  Gathering starts at 11 AM and Meals on Wheels is usually brought in at noon.  A program usually follows the meal or members stay and socialize, playing games of their choice.

December 2013

We had a short Thursday meeting schedule due to Thanksgiving, but we still had some interesting activities.  Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

We started off the month with the McKay history.  Wow, what experiences and adventures Bill and Terri have had, so far.  And from all indications, their adventures are not over. I sure hope they sit down and record their experiences for their family and friends.

We next had a representative from Easter Seals who spoke about their “Seniors Count” program.  Most of us did not know that Easter Seals has such a program that centered on taking care of seniors at home.  This program is available 24/7 and provides such services as companionship, home-helper, wellness, transportation and transition home-from-hospital services.  This program is committed to offering a helping hand where and when needed. More information can be acquired by calling 603-621-3497 or going to www.eastersealsnh.org.

The following week was our business meeting, as we do not hold a meeting on Thanksgiving Thursday.  The minutes of the last meeting were read by Bob Fiero and accepted. The Treasurer’s report was read and accepted.

New business: Members were reminded of the upcoming Christmas party on 12 December at the Crown Plaza.  Festivities start at 11:00AM.  Our very own John O. will be providing entertainment.  If you have not made your reservations, please call Nancy Bell at 603-465-7822.

Also discussed was our election of officers for next year.  The slate of candidates so far is as follows:

President:  Honi Glover

Vice Present:  Donna Wardlow

Secretary:  Bob Fiero

Treasurer:  Nancy Bell.

Floor nominations and voting will take place during the December business meeting on 19 December.  Voting will be by secret ballot.

Activities for the month of December:

-          5 Dec:  MOW and a history of the Viet Nam war period.

-          12 Dec:  Christmas party at the Crown Plaza.  Don’t be late!

-          19 Dec:  Business meeting and election of officers.

-          25 Dec:  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

-          26 Dec:  NO MEETING. See everyone next year.

December Birthdays: Sheila Carrier, Janet Chaney, Grace Dunham, and Betty Gondola.

If we forgot someone, it is because you didn’t provide your birth month for our database.  Please see Bob Fiero to update your information.

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

Future Senior Activities of interest.

1.      We are working on upcoming winter activities.

2.      Voting for 2014 officers.

3.      Our Christmas party is already scheduled for 12 December 2013 at the Crown Plaza.

Please let me know your suggestions.
