Hollis Seniors meet every Thursday at the Lawrence Barn Community Center.  Gathering starts at 11 AM and Meals on Wheels is usually brought in at noon.  A program usually follows the meal or members stay and socialize, playing games of their choice.

April 2012

We have added more new members this year.  They are: Pamela Arpin, Janice Mathews and Noreen Morley.  When you see them, say “Hi”.  (Did I leave out any other “newbie’s?)?

March was a little quite starting with a snow/ice storm.  With that, we cancelled our 1 Mar meeting.

At the next meeting Helga Coss presented her biography.  Her history was most interesting and informative.  Harold Coss will present his at a later date.

We had Basil Mason present his biography at our next meeting.  Basil was a walking and talking encyclopedia of Hollis history.  Who knew so much went on in our little town of Hollis?

At our next to last monthly meeting Belton Hearing Aids preformed a hearing clinic AND provided ice cream for an ice cream social.  We got our hearing checked out and had an ice cream bar.  It just does not get any better.

We finished up the month with our business meeting.  We discussed possible future outings and events. One of the new events starting this Thursday, and every Thursday, is an “exercise class” sponsored by the Arthritis foundation.  For those who want to do some basic exercises, we start at 10:30AM. You may want to bring a mat and comfortable clothes.  We will be following a video, so we will be able set our own pace.

Activities for the month of April:

-          5 Apr:  MOW+ Blood Pressure + Movie + Exercise class

-          12 Apr:  Chiropractic Care

-          19 Apr:  Langdon Place will sponsor a class on Diabetes.

-          25 Apr:  Trip to Foxwoods-and the Indian Museum.

-          26 Apr:  Business Meeting

April Birthdays:  Frank Ballou, Honi Glover, Norma Gundersen, Trudi Luthi, Bill McKay, Linda Monahan, Glen Simonds and Betty Stewart

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      We asked the “blue bus” if they could pick up several members on Thursday for our meetings.  The answer is “YES!”  We currently have 1 member who is using the blue bus service to attend our meetings.  Are there others who are interested?

4.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

 Future Senior Activities of interest.

1.      How about a trip to the NH State House to see and hear our State Reps at work?  (We now have one of our own as a State Representative)

2.      How about a trip to the WW II Wright museum in Wolfeboro, NH.  It has been updated and a great place to visit.  Maybe during May 2012?

3.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

4.      We are going to investigate the possibility of combining some future events with the Nashua Seniors group.

5.      We are looking into a visit to the Army Museum at Ft. Devens.

Please let me know your comments and wishes.
