May 2009

Welcome to Spring.  And say hello to 2 new members:  Bob Cole and Phil Leclerc.  Welcome!

During April, several members took a narrated bus trip to Troy NH and the surrounding area to visit various craft and antique shops.  The trip was arranged by Rita and John and was most enjoyable. They also had a great lunch at the “Lilly-on-the-Pond.”  We also enjoyed another lunch put on by the HBMS and its students.  If you have not taken part in the HBMS lunch, you should make an effort to do so.  Great food and great times with the students.

Our new newsletter format (getting the newsletter on the web) seems to be a hit.

Activities for the months of May and June.

-          7 May: MOW + Blood pressure

-          14 May: MOW + a Scavenger Hunt.  You need to get 15 items and there will be a prize to the first person to get all 15. If you didn’t get a list of items at our meeting, call Phyllis.

-          21 May: MOW + Rita’s bio.  I bet she has an interesting history!

-          25 May: Memorial Day.  Hollis activities start at 5:00 PM at the town common.

-          26 May: Lunch at the HBMS-cost is $3.00 per person.  Be seated by 11:15.

-          28 May: MOW + Business meeting

-          ?? May: Possible trip to the “Vermont Country Store.”

-          4 Jun: MOW + Blood pressure.  This will be the last MOW for the summer.

-          11 Jun: Seniors Picnic, with a magic show.  You shouldn’t miss this event!

-          16 Jun: HBMS lunch

-          18 Jun: Bring your own lunch

-          25 Jun: TBD

May Birthdays:  Rita DiClemente, Phyllis Houle, Madelyn Monahan, and Jean Stone

General:

1.      The Hollis Seniors now have a gateway to post cancellations on WMUR TV, airing 15 and 45 minutes past the hour on Channel 9.  If the weather looks bad, check Channel 9

2.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month.  Be sure to attend

3.      There will be an AARP Driver Safety Class on 19 and 20 May 2009 at the Lawrence Barn.  Cost is $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-AARP members.  Please call Andy at 880-8685 to register.   As a side note, some insurance companies grant premium reductions if you take this course.

4.      The SVTC bus service is off to a good start.  If you have any questions, give Jim B. a call at 465-2301 or call Nashua transportation at 880-0100.

Other Senior Activities of interest.

1.      How about taking a trip to the Vermont Country Store located in Rockingham or Weston VT.  It would make a great day trip.  Right now there seems to be a lot of interest.  Look for a date in May to take a trip to VT.

2.      We had enough folks to participate in “Sponsor a Child.”  Thank you, Rita.

3.      Don’t forget to visit our Hollis Library.

4.      How about some “show and tells” this spring.  Bet there are a lot of interesting tales about hobbies, etc that our members can explain.

5.      How about upcoming scavenger hunts?  One is scheduled for 14 May.

6.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

Please let me know your comments and wishes.

Phyllis Houle
